About our service
The surgical physiotherapy team works across critical care, the surgical wards and some outpatient clinics. Physiotherapy helps to reduce the development of post – operative complications such as blood clots, chest infections and a prolonged stay in hospital. It is very important that patients are mobilised as soon as possible after undergoing surgery and are encouraged to participate in regular exercise and mobilisation in hospital.
Some high risk patients may be seen preoperatively to give specialised advice to help them in their recovery.
The surgical team also provides an outpatient service to patients who develop complications with shoulder movement following breast surgery and also a Lymphoedema service to Gynaeoncology patients.
