We have an excellent reputation as a teaching hospital with many education and training opportunities available as well as specialty-specific programmes that take place in our Clinical Skills Centre.
I’m Naomi i’m currently a GP trainee in my first year and i’ve just finished two years of my foundation training at the QE in Gateshead. I’ve had a really great experience of my foundation training actually a bit of my size hospital so you get to know when a lot of the kind of senior members of the team like consultants registrar’s other message shows and everyone’s so friendly
I’ve never really felt like I couldn’t call on someone for help actually I’m even in the middle of a night shift I started on medical nights as an f1 and the Registrar was absolutely amazing. It’s such a friendly place i know people probably say that a lot but it really is. I love the city great shopping you’ve got the metrocentre and you’ve got the central like Newcastle shopping you’ve got countryside around it you’ve got the seaside you’ve got tynemouth once you move here you’re like why would I want to move away like it’s just got everything you want I I couldn’t be happier really I don’t see myself moving away.
Our junior medical staff are valuable members of our Trust team, helping us to provide high-quality patient care.
We actively support continuous professional development and training to achieve the curriculum requirements of specialty training, including GPVTS (General Practice Vocational Training Scheme), whilst supporting individual learning needs.
Junior doctors who have worked here are always happy to return, describing our staff as friendly, supportive and down-to-earth, where they feel they can learn their trade.
Many education and training opportunities are available throughout the Trust as well as specialty specific programmes that take place in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre.
This allows us to use the most up-to-date technology in our high fidelity clinical simulation area. Our well equipped centre houses our SimMan 3G, SimMan, SimMom, SimJunior, SimBaby manikins. We host several postgraduate courses including ATLS, ALS, APLS, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Simulation training is high on our agenda and we incorporate this in our Human factors training, Simulation Training in Paediatric Emergencies, and our Obstetric Emergencies course to name a few.
The education team is the hub of our support network and provides administrative support for all our education faculty.
